Every year, on first December, Romanians celebrate Ziua Marii Uniri - Great Union Day. The national holiday marks the 1918 declaration of unification between Romania and Transylvania, and the creation of modern Romania.
On that day, the military stomps across the country. The biggest parade is in the capital, Bucharest, where tens of thousands turn out to watch soldiers and police march from Piața Presei Libere to Arcul de Triumf; followed, flanked and flown-over by tanks, trucks, and jets.
Inclusive of the hundredth anniversary of Ziua Marii Uniri in 2018, these photographs were taken over a period of four years; from 2017, to pandemic-emptied 2020.
